The Green House Mawella

Just 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Hiriketiya on Sri Lanka’s wonderful south coast lies the beautiful Mawella. The Green House, 70 meters away from Mawella’s crescent shaped beach of soft sand, palm trees and crystal clear water. You will see the beach as you open the gate, stroll down the quiet lane onto the soft sand for a swim on one of the body boards, the perfect place for all ages. 

 Access to the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen all lead from the main living space. Multiple Bi-Fold doors help air and light flow through the open plan living and dining room. Bringing as much of the outside in as possible. Overhead fans and light colours help keep the space cool.  There is a stainless steel fan oven and 4 ring induction hob below the extract fan. A large fridge/freezer and washing machine (area to hang your washing out behind the outbuilding). Drinking water is available from the filter in the kitchen and will be replaced once empty.

 Each bedroom has its own en-suite leading to a separate courtyard. Modern shower units and solar heated hot water throughout the property. Rooms 1 and 2 have Sri Lankan queen beds equipped with a mosquito net, bedside tables, wardrobes, lamps and suitcase stand. Room 3 has two single beds with a mosquito net each, and a wardrobe. All bedrooms have ceiling fans, air conditioning, places to hang and store clothes and black out blinds. 

There is a 24x7 feet pool, sun beds and been bags. Behind the pool deck is an outside shower and foot wash. Please note the 5ft deep pool is not guarded, if you have concerns over pool safety please bring life jackets for vulnerable people. The white walls of the building and boundary wall give the villa a fresh contemporary look, letting plants and trees take centre stage. Enjoy slow evening meals with family or friends with a warm glow of strategically placed uplighting next to our favourite palms. Following the main living area is a staircase that leads up to a roof terrace with pergola, table and chairs. 

A optional complimentary breakfast will be provided each morning of your stay, between 8am and 10:30 Please inform our manager Rasitha your preferred time or if you would not like breakfast. -Sri Lankan omelette or fried eggs. -hoppers and coconut roti served with coconut and onion sambol. Toast, jam, butter, a selection of fruit with yoghurt and your choice of tea, coffee, or fruit juice. Kindly note that we are primarily a self-catering villa. The cook will need access to the property to prepare breakfast and tidy up afterwards.

Guests have access to the whole property. We have no staff living on site. The Green House is set in a quiet village, a stones throw from Mawella beach. There is a growing array of amenities popping up in the village. A small shop out of the gate to the right that has essentials and more. The local supermarkets are Food City in Tangalle and Dickwella. At the end of the Lane there are various wonderful local family restaurants on the beach, Sea Dragon, Sun Shine Restaurant The Cocktails. Boutique hotels with dining facilities, Halcyon, Isana, Taru Villas and Esperanza.

With a short tuk tuk ride on the tangalle road (A2) there is a diverse collection of little restaurants towards the city centre. Here you will find supermarkets and fish markets aplenty! Suggestions for tuk tuk drivers available on request or you can walk to the top of the road and hail your own. Another option is to travel 10 minutes in a tuk tuk to Hiriketiya and Dickwella where you will find lively restaurants and beach bars. Mawella is a wonderful and unique beach where swimming can be done all year round. Body boarding is a must (you will find 4 adult boards and 2 Childrens boards so please use them). We have lured a few fish in our time in Mawella, especially from the rocks to the left of the bay. There are also many other local beaches within the area a short tuk tuk ride away such as Jungle beach (also know as Paradise beach), Unakuruwa, Goyambokka and Silent beach to name a few. We recommend using local tuk tuk’s or car and scooter hire to enjoy the surrounding areas. Our friendly manager Rasitha will assist you with any other travel needs.

A few things to note.

We have two 4G WiFi connections, one at either end of the property, feel free to switch between them as and when needed. -Please note that the pool is not fenced, children should be supervised. -There are 6 sun-beds with cushions, 3 bean bags and a table with 6 outside chairs. -There is a table and 4 chairs on the roof terrace. -Please look after the house as it’s our home and to remove footwear stepping into the house. We also ask guests not to sit on inside furniture with wet costumes and towels.
